Edinburgh Line of Duty actor asks fans to send wife nice messages after missing birthday

Edinburgh Line of Duty actor Mark Bonnar asked fans to shower his actress wife with well wishes after she was forced to isolate due to testing positive for Covid on her birthday.

Bonnar, who played Mike Dryden in the record-breaking BBC crime drama, also stars in the popular Shetland and Guilt, asserting himself as a popular face amongst TV fanatics across the country.

However, the 53-year-old could not spend the day with his wife, Lucy Gaskell, on her birthday, so instead urged his followers on Twitter to send positive messages to her and put a smile on her face.

The Record report how the actress, who has starred in Doctor Who, Casualty, Holby City and James Cordon flick Lesbian Vampire Killers, turned 43 on Sunday, 10.

While Mark was stuck downstairs with his wife isolating in another area of the house, he sent out a tweet letting his followers know the situation and to see if they could cheer her up. He said: "Hello sisters and brothers. It’s my wonderful wife’s birthday today and I can’t be with her cos I’m stuck upstairs with the bloody Covid!

"I would love it if you could send her some birthday wishes. Thank you xx."

The tweet received a fair bit of traction, being liked over three thousand times and was followed by a whole host of comments from famous faces within the acting industry, as well as supportive fans.

Comedian Greg McHugh, who wrote and starred in Gary: Tank Commander, said: "Happy Birthday Lucy!!! Hope the party is in full swing now and Mark is facetime boogying on the roof like the Robert the Bruce’s father in Braveheart (updated version) xx."

Scottish TV personality Gail Porter posted: "Happy birthday Lucy Gaskell. Get well soon Mr Bonnar. X."

Bonnar's Shetland co-star Douglas Henshall wrote: "Happy Birthday Lucy ! Much love to both of you. X."

And Only an Excuse and Two Doors Down actor Jonathan Watson said: "Belated birthday greetin."
