Lidl have begun construction on their latest Edinburgh supermarket that is due to open in the capital this year.
The major discount supermarket have expanded throughout the city in recent years, with their latest store to open in the former Currys PC World site at Corstorphine.
With plans having in place for some time to renovate the building into a food store, planning was eventually granted by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn expansion and regeneration plans across Great Britain for 2021 and 2022, the new, modern supermarket will move into the former Glasgow Road, with some top-of-the range features.
Speaking about the construction works, Lidl confirmed the new store will contain customer toilets with baby changing facilities, a feature not seen in all of their supermarkets.
In addition, there will also be Lidl's "much loved in-store bakery", as well as a huge 1,256m2 sales area.

Work will also be going on in the car park, to change the layout of the current customer bays.
With plans expecting to see the new supermarket open in autumn 2022, Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Gordon Rafferty, commented :
“We are pleased to announce that construction of our Corstorphine store has begun and we look forward to further serving the community in West Edinburgh following the opening of our Craigleith store at the end of last year.
“We expect the Corstorphine store to be ready later in the year as we continue our ongoing investment across Scotland.”
