Edinburgh libraries start Dog Friendly Thursdays where pooches can be fed and watered

You might be seeing more dog ears among the books in Edinburgh's libraries, as special dog-friendly days are starting this week

Three libraries across Edinburgh will be holding regular Dog Friendly Thursdays, starting this week on October 3.

Well-behaved pooches will be welcomed into Central, Stockbridge and Oxgangs libraries.

The move is aimed at tackling loneliness and social isolation, meaning dog-owners no longer have to worry about leaving their pets outside when they visit the library.

Librarians want to make the sites friendlier places to visit

Participating libraries will leave a bowl of water somewhere safe near the door for doggy customers (where it won’t be tripped over) and there will be a one-off supply of dog biscuits for the first visitors.

Dogs are also expected to follow etiquette rules and owners must clean up after them.

The scheme follows a similar successful initiative in Perthshire.
