Edinburgh Leisure discussions are ongoing about reopening golf and tennis venues in the city

Talks are ongoing between Edinburgh Leisure and the City of Edinburgh Council about reopening the city's tennis and golf venues.

Nicola Sturgeon announced on Thursday that some non-contact outdoor activities could resume as part of phase one of the Scottish Government lockdown route map.

And with phase one set to be introduced this coming Thursday (28 May), discussions are now taking place around how things can be brought back safely.

In a statement Edinburgh Leisure said their "number one priority" is ensuring the safety of customers and employees, with physical distancing and hygiene measures being in place at all times.

They said: "We are working through what this means for Edinburgh Leisure’s ‘outdoor’ activities, predominantly golf and tennis; identifying what we can deliver, how and when. As you can appreciate there are a large number of operational issues to consider and new arrangements to put in place.

"Our number one priority is making sure we can provide a safe environment for customers and employees. We are also liaising with the City of Edinburgh Council, our partner and main funder, over re-opening arrangements.

"All of this is, of course, subject to the Scottish Government’s announcement on 28 May. So, no change at the moment."

Edinburgh Live reported on Thursday all the measures which are likely to be relaxed as part of phase one.
