Edinburgh Leisure call in pest control after mice spotted in sports centre cafe

Edinburgh Leisure has called in pest control after mice were spotted in one of their cafes.

Disgusted diners spotted vermin in the seated area at the new Meadowbank Stadium - just months after it reopened.

The arms-length council department has apologised for the incident, and confirmed they have taken measures to rid the building of mice.

One customer told Edinburgh Live: "My friend and I were sitting having a coffee when we spotted a mouse scuttling around the cafe area.

“It was gross and I was really surprised as the building opened less than a year ago, so I wasn't expecting to see that."

Edinburgh Leisure say that they are treating the matter seriously and have reassured customers that they have contacted the council to acquire their pest control services on site.

An Edinburgh Leisure spokesperson said: “The health and safety of our customers is paramount.

“Edinburgh Leisure maintains the highest of cleanliness scores, as indicated by our recent customer experience survey.

“We apologise to customers distressed by the recent sightings of mice in our Meadowbank café.

“However, we can reassure our customers that we are taking the necessary steps to address this and have also sought assistance from the Council’s pest control services.”
