This is not a drill, we repeat, this is not a drill - Victor Hugo, home of THOSE sandwiches, are opening a brand new venue in Leith.
Victor Hugo Delicatessen has been located on Melville Terrace, right next to the Meadows, since 1969. They also opened a brand new shop on George Street in 2019 which has been offering delivery of their continental breakfasts and filling-packed sarnies during lockdown.
Now, the deli is heading north and will be opening up its third Edinburgh venue in the former Pizza Express site on the Shore.
The deli will be dishing out its legendary jaw-breaking sandwiches from the Leith site - such as the famous Grilled Pastrami on Rye.
The Pizza Express at the Shore was shut down for good during lockdown after the restaurant chain announced major closures.
According to James Murray of Fidra Property Consultants, who advised Victor Hugo on the new site acquisition, he is seeing more local independent businesses take on new opportunities, despite the impact of the pandemic on the hospitality industry.
Victor Hugo’s owner Karol Rzepkowski said: “It has long been our ambition to open a Victor Hugo in Leith so when we heard the unit was coming to the market, we moved quickly to secure what we feel is a great location.
"There’s a lot happening in north Edinburgh just now and The Shore area in particular has a great buzz about it so we can’t wait to get started”.
