Edinburgh lad Jamie Clayton brands Scottish football 'abysmal' in Love Island debut

Edinburgh lad Jamie Clayton slated Scottish football in his debut appearance on Tuesday night's Love Island.

Whilst on a date with Shaughna Phillips, the recruitment consultant left many viewers fuming when he called Scottish football 'abysmal'.

Getting to know her potentially new love interest, newly single Shaughna, 25, said: "So Scottish, Edinburgh.

"Do you support Rangers or Celtic?"

Jamie went on a date with Shaughna Phillips in last night's episode (ITV)

To which Jamie, 28, replied: "Neither. Scottish football is abysmal."

Before admitting he was a Newcastle fan.

Many Scots were not impressed with the new lad's comments and took to Twitter to have their say.

One woman said: "Imagine Jamie, one of our own, slagging off Scottish football. FS you’re supposed to be backing us up. #LoveIsland"

Whilst another added: ""Nah was into Jamie for a minute then he said Scottish football is abysmal, absolute traitor."

Jamie also revealed his plans to confront Callum Jones for dumping Shaughna, saying he was 'out of order'.

He added: he tells her: "I think Nas went about things the right way. I think what Callum did was a bit out of order.

"My plans when I go in are to talk to him.

"You’re too smart for him if I’m be honest.”

Producers hope newcomer Jamie Clayton will shake things up, describing himself as "funny, outgoing, confident" and "what the villa needs".

Describing his dream woman, Jamie said: "Attraction gets me interested and then it’s the personality that keeps me interested.

"I tend to go for chatty girls, I need someone who can hold a conversation and have a laugh and someone who I can trust. I want a loyal girl."
