Edinburgh killer who poured boiling water and sugar on neighbour dies in prison

A man who poured a pan of boiling water and sugar over his neighbour before stabbing him to death has died in prison.

Rene Howieson, 39, stabbed Colin Skilbeck in his Edinburgh flat in March 2017.

He joined forces with his wife Kathleen Downey to kill his neighbour, who lived in the flat with a friend who had previously been in a relationship with Downey's older sister.

The relationship ended, and the pair "did not part on good terms", with Downey, 35, shown a threatening note her sister had left.

Colin Skilbeck's flatmate Jason Hamilton had warned him not to answer the door to the pair - and when he did, he was attacked and killed.

Howieson was serving a life sentence for murder and had been sentenced to 14 years in jail.

Mr Skilbeck, 41, suffered nine knife wounds in the attack in March 2017, with one penetrating his heart.
