Edinburgh Johnnie Walker experience evacuated as fire crews attend scene

Edinburgh tourists were forced to evacuate the popular Johnnie Walker experience on Tuesday afternoon after a fire alarm was activated.

Pictures from the scene show crowds of tourists, as well as staff, waiting outside the popular Princes Street attraction. The fire alarm was activated at 1pm on July 28 and Scottish Fire and Rescue services quickly raced to the scene.

The pictures show groups of staff and pedestrians taking pictures of the inconvenience and speaking among themselves as they wait to go back inside. Another picture from Princes Street shows Scottish Fire and Rescue attending the scene, sending one unit to the report.

While no fire was found inside the attraction, people still had to wait while the emergency services ensured that the building was safe. The building was inspected by fire crews who have now left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.

Scottish Fire and Rescue confirms that they found no signs of smoke or fire at the scene.

The Johnnie Walker experience opened in September just last year and has become a popular tourist attraction in the capital. Featuring their rooftop bar, Bothy bar and even working in conjunction with the Festival Fringe this August.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1pm on Thursday, July 28 to an automatic alarm activation at a commercial building on Princes Street, Edinburgh.

“Operations control immediately mobilised one fire appliance to the location.

“Firefighters checked the building and established that there was no sign of fire or smoke.

“The crew left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”
