An Edinburgh restaurant has been named amongst those on the final shortlist for this year's Deliveroo Restaurant Awards.

Bentoya, an independent Japanese restaurant has been shortlisted in the 'Best Sushi Restaurant' category and will be hoping to walk away with the first place prize to top it off.

Bentoya is just one of five Edinburgh restaurants also included in the final shortlist.

Fat Hippo, Wahaca, FreshMex and Gaucho are all potential candidates to win an award in the prestigious ceremony, with the public having until Monday 18 October to make their choice. The winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony on November 15.

The awards help shine a light on restaurants in the UK that have gone above and beyond to deliver excellent quality food and customer service.

Deliveroo are encouraging restaurant owners, grocers and the general public to tune in to see who will take home the 22 individual prizes, with a celebrity guest panel yet to be announced. Last year saw Maya Jama, Vogue Williams, Riyadh Khalaf and Will Shu helping to present the awards.

Bentoya is located on Bread Street and offers both a dine-in and takeaway option for customers, but it's their famous sushi that may soon be award-winning sushi.

Fat Hippo, an independent burger group with several restaurants across the UK, are shortlisted for the 'Restaurant of the Year' award. Wahace, known for its impressive and picture-esque tacos, are in the 'Best Mexican Restaurant' category. Joining them in the same category is FreshMex, who won Scotland's most ordered dish for the last three years in a row.

The final restaurant on the list is Gaucho. Located in St Andrew Square, Gaucho will be hoping to take home the 'Best Fine Dining' award at this year's ceremony.

Speaking on the importance of the awards, Will Shu, CEO of Deliveroo, said: “Celebrating our incredible restaurant and grocery partners has never been more important. We are launching our third annual Deliveroo Restaurant Awards to shine a light on the very best food the UK and Ireland has to offer, from high-street favourites to local gems.

"With new categories, and over 45,000 restaurants and grocers in the running, this year’s awards will be bigger and better than ever. We’re calling on the public to celebrate their favourite local restaurants and grocers by casting your vote and supporting these great businesses."
