Edinburgh is the most expensive place to have a kebab in the UK

A study conducted by treated.com has revealed that Edinburgh is the most expensive place to get a kebab when compared with the UK's biggest cities.

Perhaps it could be argued that the Edinburgh area just has a higher calibre of kebab. After all, a kebab shop in Mussleburgh was named one of the best in the UK.

Edinburgh is also home to up market kebab shops such as German Doner Kebab, who serve kebabs described as 'stylish' and 'healthy'.

But at £7.50, Edinburgh kebabs are way above the average, especially when compared to our cheap sister Glasgow, who offers out kebabs for an average of £5.46

Just look how high Edinburgh is on the kebab price league table:

It is not just kebabs that are expensive in the capital. The study conducted also looked at the average cost of a night out in UK cities.

Edinburgh also came up the most expensive for a glass of red wine and second most expensive for a glass of white. Here's how it compared with other cities:

So if paying £7.50 for a kebab isn't for you, perhaps it's time to try a night out somewhere else in the UK. If so, here are some of the other take aways from the UK wide study:

  • Unsurprisingly, London tops the list for a number of variables. We found that it was the most expensive city to buy a pint of beer (£5.60), and the most expensive city to buy a glass of white wine (£5.71). It also topped our list as the most expensive city for both taxis and Ubers.
  • Sheffield was the most affordable city to purchase beer, costing a mere £3.36 per pint. Liverpool was second, costing £3.47 per pint, and Leicester a respectable third costing £3.36.
  • Cardiff was the most affordable city to purchase a 175ml glass of white wine, costing £4.13 per glass.
  • For a warming glass of red, Glasgow topped our list as the cheapest - costing £4.18 for a medium glass.
  • The cheapest city to purchase a kebab was Liverpool, costing only £4.40
