Edinburgh International Film Festival announce ultimate family day out with cinema, face painting and more

Our summer diaries are getting fuller by the second as Edinburgh International Film Festival continue to announce exciting events for this June.

They have today announced two new additions to its 2019 programme : this year’s People’s Gala is the Jamie Adams drama ‘Balance, Not Symmetry’ and the new animated musical adventure UglyDolls starring Kelly Clarkson will be this year’s Family Gala showing.

The Family Gala, which takes place at the Festival Theatre on Sunday 23 June, is the day out for kids and adults alike - cinema, face painting, photo booths and costumed characters all in one action-packed afternoon.

We’re particularly excited about it. Why? Because Edinburgh Live are sponsoring the event, as part of our ongoing commitment to bringing you the best in Edinburgh - and to treat our readers to unique, family-fuelled events.

Yee-haw! Toy Story 4 will be shown in Edinburgh this June BEFORE its official release date

Edinburgh Live's editor Hilary Mitchell said: "We're very excited to be partnering up with the Edinburgh International Film Festival to bring this very special UglyDolls Family Gala to the city.

"Edinburgh Live is a brand-new digital title dedicated to sharing all of the best things Edinburgh has to offer, and this screening is definitely one of them! We hope you and your family enjoy UglyDolls as much as we do."

The much-beloved global plush toy phenomenon UglyDolls will hit the big screen at Edinburgh Festival Theatre with a new animated musical adventure, featuring the acting and singing voices of a star studded cast, including Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton and Pitbull.

Film Fest in the City is coming back to St Andrew Square for awesome outdoor screenings this June

It’s a movie with message - unconventionality rules at the film’s warm-hearted core, as the ever-optimistic UglyDolls confront accepted notions of beauty - it won’t just be your kids that enjoy it.

We’re also excited to be sponsoring Film Fest in the City this year as well - taking over St Andrew Square Garden for a weekend of outdoor cinema screenings like no other.

The People’s Gala, which will be showing Balance Not Symmetry, a cinematic tribute to art, music and Scotland, offers up £5 tickets to customers as part of efforts to make the festival more inclusive.

The film will screen at EIFF on Sunday 23rd June at Festival Theatre and tickets can be purchased here .
