Edinburgh insect bakery boss banned from running business as £86k goes missing

A former Edinburgh bakery owner has been banned from running a business after a huge chunk of money went missing from their accounts.

Cyril Barthelme had been known for his unusual bakery named Patisserie Maxime after revealing that they were using odd ingredients such as scorpions in their cooking.

The bakery had hoped that using the insects, which included tarantulas and crickets, would encourage customers to find new alternatives to meat.

However, this week it was confirmed the 31-year-old will be unable to run another company for seven years after £86,000 went missing from their accounts.

According to the Record, Barthelme has been banned from being a director for seven years after liquidators could not determine what happened to £86,457 of fixed assets.

The firm had gone bust in 2020, with Barthelme resigning in the January and appointing liquidators two months later.
