Edinburgh house-hunters on Location, Location, Location find dream home but there's a downfall

The couple from Aberdeen are looking to move to the capital but, without Phil and Kirsty's help, have not seen a single property in their hunt so far.

In the 39th series of the popular property-hunting programme, hosts Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer headed to Edinburgh to suss out two homes in a fast-moving market.

Freya and Elliot, who currently rent in Aberdeen, were on the search for a home with plenty of space, original features and a front door for a budget of £475,000.

The couple quickly caught on to just how ruthless and competitive the Edinburgh property market is, with many homes going for tens of thousands over the asking price.

First, Phil showed the couple a flat on Comiston Road with two bedrooms, access to a garden, huge bay windows and some original features for £325,000 - but the shared stair door didn't cut it.

Next was a unique property on Montgomery Street in Hillside which Phil suspected was previously used as a holiday let due to the unique layout.

At the top of their budget, looking for offers over £445,000, the couple initially loved the property and the spacious open-plan kitchens inside.

This front-door home boasted three bedrooms, three bathrooms and access to a garden, but someone else had already put an offer in before even viewing the house, so it was bound to be competitive.

Freya and Elliot didn't think Phil could top the previous viewing - but he did with a gorgeous flat with a street-level private front door in Comely Bank.

As soon as the couple set eyes on this home, they loved it and Freya was delighted with the plush area, green parks nearby and proximity to Stockbridge.

The property ticked all the boxes with its original features including a working fireplace, bay windows and working shutters, high ceilings and a spacious 2 bedrooms plus a box room.

After stewing over the homes on offer Freya and Elliot decided to put all their eggs in one basket and push their budget to its max by putting an offer in for the stunning Georgian home.

Unfortunately, it was not meant to be and despite going in at £465,000 - £35,000 over the asking price the couple were gutted to find out it was a no.

When Phil took the call, Freya looked like she could cry as the perfect home was just out of reach. The couple are still set on life in the capital but are taking the search at a slower pace while it is so expensive.

Location, Location, Location returns to Channel 4 on Wednesday, May 17 at 8pm. Catch-up episodes are available on Channel 4's website.
