Edinburgh hotel 'sorry' after guest forced to bring down own rubbish and laundry

A couple who spent £100 a night to stay at an Edinburgh hotel have slammed their visit online, claiming they were served a stone cold breakfast and forced to bring their own rubbish and laundry downstairs.

The guests branded their stay a ‘joke’, in a review on TripAdvisor of Edinburgh’s Queen Street Yotel.

Leaving just one star in their review, they stated: “We stayed here, had a stone cold English breakfast which we refused to pay for.

“They then refused to clean our room on a three day break as they had no staff. No offer of any compensation.

“They told us to bring our own rubbish and towels down. £100 a night, really?”

“I wouldn’t mind, but they don’t tell you this until you arrive. I can’t believe they are getting away with it, joke.”

Responding to the couple’s complaint, a representative from Yotel replied: “I am sorry to hear about the breakfast and please accept my apologies.

“I do appreciate that it’s inconvenient to not receive housekeeping services during your stay. We more than anyone want to be able to provide this service on a daily basis.

“Unfortunately, just as other businesses such as airports, we do find it difficult to maintain our staff levels due to unplanned sickness. On a positive note, we are hiring and training more persons and are making progress towards returning to our usual services.

“Please do accept my apologies for not living up to the expectations you had from us. I do still hope you give us a chance in the future when we are able to provide you with the full experience.”

Not all who have visited the Yotel had similar experiences, with another recent review stating: “Very clean, comfortable and modern hotel. Will be staying again and recommending to anyone who tells me they will be in the area.”

A similar review states: “Staff were super friendly and helpful, everything was incredibly clean and the bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in - I have nothing negative to say about the hotel.”

With 830 reviews on TripAdvisor, the Queen Street Yotel has received an average of 4.0 / 5 - and comes in at 101 out of 166 hotels in Edinburgh on the website.
