Edinburgh hotel evacuated after fire rips through cafe leaving one person injured

An Edinburgh hotel has been evacuated after a fire ripped through a nearby cafe.

The blaze broke out at Pret a Manger on North Bridge on Sunday at around 5.30pm.

Guests at the nearby Scotsman hotel were evacuated after smoke billowed into the building.

One person was taken to hospital.

Their condition is unknown. 

The fire has now been extinguished but crews remain at the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 5.31pm on Sunday 24 November to reports of a fire within a business premises on North Bridge, Edinburgh.

“Operations control mobilised six appliances to the scene. Crews extinguished the fire within a ground floor building.

“One casualty was transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“An adjacent hotel was evacuated due to smoke affecting the building.

“Fire crews are still in attendance."
