Edinburgh hotel bosses hit back as guests left 'climbing over each other'

Edinburgh hotel bosses have responded after a guest complained about a 'tiny' room during their stay.

Point A Hotel, on Morrison Street at Haymarket, received a one-star review on Tripadvisor from the disgruntled reviewer. The guest posted: "Avoid this option unless you are alone and have no luggage" before describing their complaint in detail.

The reviewer started posting: "Bed shoved up against wall on three sides so you have to climb over each other to do anything. Nowhere for luggage except tiny floor space between bed and front door."

After realising the size of the room, the guest spoke to the members of staff. They went on: "When pointed this out to staff, they suggested that they could store my luggage elsewhere in hotel… and charge me £5 per bag per day and needed them to help any time I needed to access baggage."

They then went onto say that there was no room for their icebox: "No room for small cooler. Had to store it in the shower."

The review finished by saying: "In other words, you will be staying in a room smaller than a walk in closet and will have to move everything in room and perform gymnastics to negotiate in room. I have stayed in a tent with more room. Avoid this option unless you are alone and have no luggage."

The hotel responded to the review left by the guest and said: "Thank you for taking the time to leave us your comment. We appreciate any feedback as it helps us grow.

"We regret to read that our facilities don't live up to your expectations. While it is true, our rooms are compact, we do everything in our power to keep them clean and functional. The rooms are space efficient and modern - comprising of everything one might need for a short city stay - such as a comfy bed, hairdryer, free WI-Fi, and towels. Guests are at the heart of everything we do and taking care of them is simply number one on our list.

And bosses apologised for confusion over luggage storage charges. They added: "We are sorry for the misunderstanding regarding the luggage storage. Please know we have never charged for storing luggage, and although it may state differently on our website, we have always provided this service complimentary. We hope you will give us another chance in the future."

Point A Hotel scores an average four-and-a-half stars out of five on Tripadvisor with many guests leaving positive comments.

One person said: "Overall the hotel met our expectations, the location was great with short walk to the old town and lots of pubs and cafes nearby."

Whilst another saying: "The rooms were small but nice, the staff is really friendly and helpful and the breakfast is great."
