Edinburgh residents were left without water for several hours this morning as Scottish Water carried out urgent repairs to a burst water pipe.

It is understood that the problem was first reported at around 05:30am on January 5 in the Longstone area of the capital.

Neighbours took to social media to report waking to find no running water from taps in. their homes.

Repairs were carried out for over an hour and it is not understood if the works have been completed.

Scottish water says that it will take around an hour for all customers in the area to have their water supply restored.
