An Edinburgh shopper has hit out at an 'inappropriate' named food colouring products at a local Hobbycraft store.
Ranaa was visiting the Fort Kinnaird Retail Park in Edinburgh when she visited the store, and was met with what she described as an 'offensive' word on tubs of food colouring in the store.
On her Twitter, Ranaa said: "Is it just me or does it seem inappropriate to be selling food colouring called 'Negro Black' as we approach 2022? #racism."
Hobbycraft responded to Ranaa's tweet, stating: "Thank you for your feedback. Negro is the colour black in Spanish and Portuguese language.
"These products are sold over Europe and so are named in all languages where the product is sold. Your comments have however been passed to the supplier."

Ranaa responded to this stating: "I appreciate that it's the Spanish word for black but that that as the word 'negro' has connotations to slavery, it's not appropriate to be sold in UK shops branded like that - especially not in the ages of #BLM where people are more careful not to cause offence."
Ranaa also posted this onto her Facebook page, where people offered up their opinions of support to her stance, with one commenter saying: "That is so shocking!"
Another comment read: "Interesting, so even if it is written to show black colour innocently, this may work in Spain or Portugal.
"But why would they have the product on display in the UK. Did they staff who put it out on display not question this. Total disgrace."
Another post read: "That's awful, don't know why they still have names like this."
The product is also posted on the Hobbycraft website, with the translation clearly shown on the image of the food colouring here.
A spokesperson from Hobbycraft comments: “Thank you for letting us know. We were aware of this customer feedback and we will be sharing with the supplier. This product is sold internationally and as such, the Spanish and Portuguese word for the colour black is displayed on the packaging. We apologise for any offence caused as that is clearly not our intention as we take our diversity and inclusion policies seriously.”
