Edinburgh Hibs goalkeeper reveals Hearts fan once left bad surprise in helmet

Legendary Hibs goalkeeper John Burridge has claimed that a Hearts fan once left him a nasty surprise inside his motorbike helmet.

Burridge played for 29 clubs across his career which spanned nearly 30 years - and he has some eye-opening stories to show for it.

He revealed that a rival supporter from Hearts defecated in his headgear while he was playing for the Easter Road side in the early nineties.

Burridge, also known as Budgie, revealed the story on the latest edition of the Edinburgh Football Show podcast with David Tanner, chatting from his home in Oman.

The keeper explained that he used to travell by train from his home in Durham every day after signing for the club and would then head to training his motorbike, which he would leave at Waverley Station.

Burridge, now 69, said: “I had a little 250cc and what I did was get the train and an hour and 20 minutes later I am in Waverley [because] I had to get to Wardie training ground.

“I was rushing one day and put my helmet on and as I got to the traffic lights I thought ‘what the hell is that?’

“And brown [stuff] started coming down my face - somebody had s*** in my flipping helmet."

He added: “It must have been a b***** Hearts fan because a Hibs lad wouldn’t have done that.

“I always took my helmet home after that and I didn't leave it at Waverley ever again.”

Burridge became a hero with Hibs fans after signing for the club in 1991, aged 40, and helping the Hibees win the League Cup against Dunfermline later that year.
