Edinburgh heavy rain floods MP's office amid weather chaos that sparked tram evacuation

An MP has shown the effect of heavy rain at her constituency office after parts of Edinburgh were hit by flooding.

Liberal Democrat MP Christine Jardine posted a video on Twitter from inside the building on St John's Road in Corstorphine as water crashed against the front window.

She wrote: "Powers off in my office as we’ve flooded...normal service will resume ASAP!

"If you have elderly neighbours might be an idea to just check they are ok."

The weather caused significant disruption to services across the city, with several road closures, as well as tram services being suspended.

One tram had to be evacuated in Bankhead on the western outskirts of the city.

Pictures show passengers sheltered by umbrellas being funneled off a stranded carriage.

Currie Library and Sighthill Library were closed due to the weather, with rainwater reported to be leaking into the buildings.

On Monday morning, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain mainly for the eastern and southern parts of the country, with the warning in place until midnight.

ScotRail also alerted passengers to services running at either a reduced speed or being delayed due to flooding on the line between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
