Edinburgh Heart of Midlothian WWII ticket found with 'air raid disclaimer'

An historic Edinburgh football ticket has resurfaced dating back to the Second World War.

Shared on social media this week, Heart of Midlothian account Hearts Heritage were quick to give a glimpse of the old paper printout which was issued over 80 years ago.

Purchased for a match on May 10, 1941, the game went ahead when the capital was in the middle of extremely unprecedented times, with many hundreds of miles away on the frontline.

Playing against Rangers, the match was the 1941 Southern League Cup Final, with the two major teams going to head to head on the pitch.

However, due to the game being played in the middle of a world war, the East Stand ticket came with an unusual disclaimer you wouldn't see on today's handouts.

With the risk of air raids exceptionally high, the ticket stated that anyone who purchases it must be aware the game could be abandoned at any time.

The disclaimer read: "This ticket is issued on the understanding that the purchaser takes the risk of the game being abandoned after the gates are open in the consequence of an Air Raid warning or warnings for any other reason whatsoever."

However, thankfully the cup final was able to go ahead in full without any issues, with the teams initially drawing, but Rangers claiming a replay 4-2. The cost of entry was also very different, with a ticket setting you back 3/10 in old money.

Posting the snap to twitter, Hearts Heritage said:

"We’ve had this wonderful donation of a match ticket from the 1941 Southern League Cup Final. @JamTarts drawing 1-1 with @RangersFC. Rangers won the replay 4-2."
