Edinburgh Haymarket crash: Scotrail delays as 'vehicle carrying a crane hits bridge on Balgreen road'

Scotrail have confirmed that all of their rail services to and from Edinburgh Haymarket will be subject to disruption today due to a car hitting a bridge near the station.

The rail operator took to Twitter to warn locals of the incident, penning: "We've had reports of a a vehicle striking a bridge in the Haymarket area. All services to/from Edinburgh from Fife and from Edinburgh Park are affected."

National Rail say trains that run through the station may be delayed by up to 30 minutes, cancelled or revised, due to the crash.

A statement from National Rail, reads: "A vehicle has struck a bridge at Haymarket which means trains through the station may be delayed by up to 30 minutes, cancelled or revised.

"All services to / from Edinburgh via Fife and Edinburgh Park are unable to run. Trains via Shotts and Carstairs are currently not affected.

"We anticipate disruption will continue until 11:00.

"You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today.

"Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.

"All services to / from Edinburgh via Fife and Edinburgh Park are unable to run.Trains via Shotts and Carstairs are currently not affected."

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Edinburgh Live: "Officers are currently in attendance after reports of a vehicle hitting a rail bridge in Balgreen Road in Edinburgh. Enquiries are continuing."
