'Edinburgh has pinched it' - Glaswegians react as Stephen Fry tweets pic of cone statue

Sure, they've got the pandas and the castle, the cobbled street and all the bagpipes. Edinburgh rock if you like that kinda thing.

But one thing that it really lacks, and which Glasgow has by the bucketload, is a real character and humour.

We hate to say it -  but there is a reason folk from Edinburgh invite funny people from around the world to visit the capital once a year. They just can't hold the patter down on their own like we can.

And we're not bitter. They can have their Fringe. But they can never take our...cone trend.

Actor, comedian and Twitter legend Stephen Fry took to Twitter (on his birthday no less!) to share a picture of Edinburgh this morning.

He posted the sunrise snap of the Royal Mile alongside the caption: "Thank you for all your very charming birthday wishes. A glorious Edinburgh morning. Someone put a cone on Davy Hume’s head…"

But Glaswegians weren't having it.

One user replied: "No use. Edinburgh can’t do Glasgow."

Another added: "In Glasgow, it’s an established sign of affection. Edinburgh has pinched it, affectionately"

A third said: "The weegies must be in town..."

Maybe imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery, and we'd hate to start a fight on Stephen's special day.

Happy birthday Mr Fry. And if you need shown a real birthday party, you know where we are.
