Edinburgh greengrocers ‘trapped in time’ with till and cabinets from another age

A greengrocers frozen in time has gone on the market in Edinburgh boasting authentic features from times gone by.

Packed with vintage fixtures and fittings, the former shop is located in the affluent area of Colinton on Bridge Road. The property comprises a ground floor, self-contained retail unit and back shop.

A pre-digital till takes pride of place behind the counter of the food store - while the colour scheme inside is from another age. Perched on the old-wooden shelves, the till still has original keys, knobs and buttons intact, looking straight from a period drama.

In keeping with the nostalgic feel of the retail unit is full of old-school items. Aside from the till, images show old wooden shelves that you can picture fresh fruit and vegetables lying on.

Taking pride of place of the shop floor, is a magnificent longstanding tired flower stand that no doubt used to hold countless bunches. And the front of shop is not the end of the heritage tour.

In the back of the shop lie two old-fashioned cupboards and nearby a set of metal scales on the floor for weighing stock. The rear shop window also has spectacular views of Colinton. To top it off, the back room has an old-fashioned light switch on the wall.

Unsurprisingly, locals have flocked to the listing on property website ESPC to leave their thoughts. One person on social media said: "I can absolutely smell and feel what that place would have been like when operational."

Another person reminisced to the past and said: "Used to go there with my grandma."

The retail unit is located at 38 Bridge Road with a co-op close by and is situated to the south west of the city at the foot of the Pentland Hills.

Its listing states: "The property comprises of a ground floor, self-contained retail unit with front and back shop areas contained within a four storey, mid terraced stone built property. The shop premises lies within a parade of similar units occupied in the main by local private retailers and a Co-op store is close-by."

Colinton is a thriving community with a wide-ranging amenities such as schools, shops, post office, dentist, restaurants and everyday shops with great transports to and from the city centre.

The advert adds: "The property has a single timber framed display window with offset recessed timber and glazed entrance door. Internally the front and back shop areas are connected by an internal corridor, off which a single toilet is located. The rear shop area has a sash and case window with lovely views over Colinton."

The shop is up for sale at £60,000 and can be viewed here
