Edinburgh grandson to walk 17 hours to Hampden in a kilt for 'amazing' grandad

An Edinburgh man has taken on the huge challenge of walking from Moredun to Hampden in memory of his grandad.

Charlie Edwards, 22, will attempt the 17-hour hike on March 18 after Thomas Edwards sadly struggled with his health and passed away from cancer a few years ago.

To honour him, Charlie explained that he has chosen to do the walk on Thomas's birthday, and will also be donning a traditional kilt for the occasion.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Charlie said:

"I wanted to do the walk for a charity, and Cancer Research felt like the right one after my grandad passed away from it.

"We were the best of pals, and I've also chosen to do the walk on March 18 which will be his birthday."

Charlie will be bravely taking on the walk alone, and will spend nearly an entire day heading towards Scotland's national football stadium, before returning home.

Despite having never taken on a challenge like this before, Charlie said that he is confident he can complete the trek, adding:

"The only thing I'm a bit worried about right now is the weather, I chose Hampden to walk to as it is an iconic place and it made it a bit more of a challenge.

"I'm hoping to raise around £750, but just anything people can give is appreciated."
