Edinburgh grandad creates coronavirus-free gym at home using garden tree and refuses to 'put life on hold'

A Edinburgh granddad has set up his very own ‘garden gym’ after coronavirus forced him into lockdown.

Tony Robertson is determined to stay fit but can’t risk going to public spaces as the Covid-19 outbreak continues to spread across the country.

But the 73-year-old is refusing to put his life on hold and came up with the innovative idea to design his own gym.

Now he wants to inspire others to get through ‘these tough times’ by showing life can go on.

By tying resistance bands around trees, he has been able to work out his arms and stay active.

Tony also plans to work out his core and run laps around the garden.

His daughter-in-law Viki Mendelssohn, 49 , was so impressed with his invention she posted a video of him at work on Twitter and raked in hundreds of likes.

Speaking to the Daily Record she said: “He likes to keep fit.

"He plays golf every day and didn’t like the thought of not being able to get out.

“Instead of thinking he will be stuck in the house he wants to look on the bright side, hopefully it catches on.

“If doing this every day gives people some motivation or lets them see him as a role model that would be great.

“It really is just giving them some fun in these dark times.

“Everyone is improvising aren’t they? He is really enjoying it.

“It is just a way for him to keep active, not just physically but mentally aswell."

Posting the video on Twitter Viki said: “This is our Grandad.

"He can’t risk going to the gym anymore.

“So instead he has made a gym in the garden to do his workout.

“What a man.”
