Edinburgh good samaritan drenched by selfish driver as Aston Martin stranded in floods

The flash flooding that swept across Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon resulted in major delays on many busy roads across the capital.

Many shops were forced to close as a result of water streaming into their premises, and trains were cancelled due to amber weather warnings.

A video of Raeburn Place, shared with Edinburgh Live, meanwhile, depicts the mayhem these floods caused in Stockbridge, as many road users tried to negotiate the waterlogged roads.

In the middle of the road is a stricken Aston Martin, hazards on, with drivers trying to negotiate safely around the stranded supercar.

On the other side of the road, disgruntled passers by looked on as a selfish Vauxhall driver sped past and soaked a volunteer who was trying to clear the gridlock.

Other pedestrians were splashed by the thoughtless driver, who flew past with their windows down, unconcerned with what they were doing.

A witness told Edinburgh Live: "Everybody was driving slowly except one idiot who soaked a man who was directing traffic.

"Shops were flooded also and residents and businesses were trying to clear blocked drains."

The footage shows the man beat a hasty retreat from the road side as the inconsiderate driver ploughs into the deep surface water.

But despite trying to take evasive action, the man is soaked by a huge torrent of floodwater as the car passes.

The thunderstorm, which occurred around 4pm on Sunday afternoon, saw excessive amounts of rainfall flood the streets in a matter of minutes, blocking drains and causing damage to buildings.

Newly-opened St James Quarter saw rain pouring in from an open section of their roof structure, and flooding the Boots store in the basement.

Many bars and restaurants were forced to close their doors thanks to the horrible weather, with The Stockbridge Tap taking to Twitter yesterday to announce: "Sadly folks we've had to close for the evening due to some pretty heavy flooding in the cellar. Reopen on Tuesday as normal. Don't worry, the beer is safe and sound, just don't fancy getting the electrics all wet."

Stockbridge was seen as one of the worst impacted areas of the bad weather, as shop owners struggled to keep their premises from becoming submerged.
