An Edinburgh golf course has apologised after a dead deer was left on their grounds for a number of days this week.
Passers-by had come across the deceased animal lying at the edge of Carrick Knowe Golf Course over the last few days as it remained uncovered.
Next to a commonly used walkway, one local resident had described the scene as "disgraceful and distressful", adding that the body had been first seen on Monday (June 14). However, by Wednesday the animal was still lying at the edge of the course.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, they said: "It's had it's back leg ripped off, the poor deer was left exposed with no coverage still lying there at the golf course.
"Still not been covered or picked up, I think this is disgraceful full view of the public behind the reception area, kids and families can see this distressful image."
Apologising for the incident, the club, which is owned by Edinburgh Leisure, stated that the animal was the second deer to have been recently found on the course.
After being discovered, the deer had been moved from the course itself into the yard to await being uplifted.
An Edinburgh Leisure spokesperson said: “This is the second deer that has been found dead on the Carrick Knowe golf course and have been brought into the yard by the greenkeepers to await uplift by the Council cleansing department.
“We hope that it will be removed quickly, as the first one was. We are sorry for any distress it may have caused to any of our golf customers.”
