Edinburgh garden centre is only Scottish store to be named one of the 'coolest' in the UK

An Edinburgh plant store has been included in the Telegraph's list of coolest garden centres.

Grow Urban, who have two Edinburgh stores, were unaware of the incredible achievement until a staff member noticed their name whilst reading through the list.

With stores on Grove Street and St Vincent Street, both having been opened very recently, the recognition is even more impressive and has acted as a reward for their hard working team.

Grow Urban isn't like most traditional garden centre's, they offer an impressive collection of plants that obviously have to fit in with smaller Edinburgh flats and balconies.

Grow Urban also sell locally-roasted coffee and a selection of cakes to offer customers a peaceful and stress-free environment to explore their botanical plant collection.

The store on St Vincent Street also offers a selection of hand-crafted flower pots in all shapes and sizes, as well as friendly advice from all of their plant experts.

Speaking on the delight of being named as one of the UK's coolest garden centre's and the only Scotland based store mentioned, manager of the St Vincent store, Sophie McVey said: "We are so pleased because obviously we have relatively small stores. In the city centre you don't come across many similar shops like ours.

"At first we didn't even know about it. I was scrambling around trying to get my grandpa so send us a copy of the Telegraph.

"The team work so hard to provide a friendly place for people to visit. Our main aim is to make sure people can come in and take photos, have a coffee and find out what they need to know from our plant guru's."

With the store on Grove Street being opened in 2019 and the St Vincent Street shop only opening four months ago, Sophie couldn't believe the quick turnaround and success.

"We don't actually know how we are on the list, but I suspect Instagram has paid a huge part in the recognition. We have a big following on there and we try to post most days.

"We're also on a marketplace called green room where you can find plant shops in the UK, maybe that's somewhere else they could have found us."

With garden centres few and far between in a busy city like Edinburgh, the recognition received in one of the UK's most read national newspapers will certainly put a smile on all the staff members of Grow Urban .
