Edinburgh garages to be ripped down for brand new flats beside Union Canal

A former Edinburgh garage is set to be knocked down to make way for a series of new apartments overlooking the Union Canal.

Plans have been submitted to Edinburgh Council to demolish the commercial site near Polwarth to allow for 46 new flats to take its place.

Located at 96 Temple Park Crescent, the site currently sits on a corner overlooking the canal, and is connected to a set of tenement flats at either end.

However, developers are looking to give a new lease of life to the site, and allow buyers the chance to have a home overlooking the local beauty spot.

With a change of use from commercial to residential, the new project is proposed to be set over five or six stories, with a range of different apartments on offer.

As well as more high end properties, a section of the building will be allocated to affordable housing.

To make the most of the view a number of flats are set to have full balconies, with Juliette balconies on the upper floors.

Close to local transport links including the cycle and footpath on the canal, the site will also include some off-street parking as well as bike stores and a small garden.

A final decision will be made by the council’s Development Management Sub-Committee on September 22, however it has been recommended that the application be granted.
