Edinburgh Fringe performers battling to claim back accommodation fees amid coronavirus outbreak

Performers who were looking forward to staying in Edinburgh for this year's Fringe Festival say they are still having to pay fees despite the festival being canceled.

According to a report by The Stage, accommodation companies and landlords in the capital are still holding on to booking fees despite the event's cancellation.

One actress is being denied a refund of £2,000 after booking an Edinburgh hostel to stay in for the duration of the Fringe.

Stephanie Silver tried to claim black her payment after the festival was shut down by the virus, but was told it was non-refundable.

The actress had planned a show with the Glass Half Full Theatre company and after demanding the refund she was told the only option would be to transfer it to 2021.

With so much uncertainty since the pandemic, Stephanie can't guarantee she will be able to afford the festival next year.

Another comedian who was looking forward to performing at the annual festival went through a similar situation.

Josh Glanc paid a £1,250 deposit on a property, but when he asked to cancel it, he was told by the Edinburgh landlord that it is non-refundable.

The comedian was left shocked by the decision and worries that landlords are using the coronavirus pandemic to be "opportunistic."
