Edinburgh friends raise money for a local homeless man who died suddenly

A local woman has been left overwhelmed after her fundraiser smashed its £2,000 target in just a few days.

Hannah Edwards, a Cyrenians worker in Edinburgh, had launched a Go Fund Me after a homeless man she worked with tragically passed away.

After building a friendship through their work, Hannah and her colleague Jenny were devastated to hear that Ian had died at the end of 2020.

Describing him as an "amazing guy", the pair then looked to cover the cost of his funeral service, which can prove extremely difficult without a next of kin.

In the hopes of giving Ian the send off he deserved, the women launched a Go Fund Me page with the goal of raising £1,900 towards the costs.

In an appeal, they said: "Whatever you can give, you’ll be making a real difference and showing the world that everyone deserves a proper goodbye.

"But I know that it's a difficult time for everyone just now."

However, after appealing to the public as well as their friends and family, the fundraiser quickly smashed the target in just a few days.

Shocked at the generosity during such a tough time for many, Hannah had shared an update to thank everyone who supported them and their plans for the funeral.

In a post, she said:

"I have the most amazing family and friends.

"I can not believe that we are nearly there in less than 24 hours.

"We would not of done it without you help. Thank you for all the donations and shares."
