Edinburgh Forth Road Bridge closes to traffic for roadworks as buses diverted

The Forth Road Bridge, usually busy with Edinburgh work traffic is currently closed in both directions thanks to essential roadworks being carried out on the crossing.

Public transport towards Fife and Dundee is now being diverted via the Queensferry Crossing.

Major network Traffic Scotland announced that the Bridge would be closed today on their Twitter account at around 6:12am this morning.

In their tweet, they said: "Forth Road Bridge:

"The Forth Road Bridge is CLOSED in both directions for roadworks.

"Public transport is being diverted via the Queensferry Crossing. #DriveSafe @SETrunkRoads."

The initial announcement was made by the same network yesterday, and Traffic Scotland said that the road would remain closed until 6pm on Saturday, October 2.

Public transport network Stagecoach has said that buses will be diverted via the Builyeon Road, A900, before returning to the main thoroughfare on the A90.
