Edinburgh former Hearts star Lee Wallace retires from playing football at 35

Lee Wallace will be moving into coaching after the former Hearts player's retirement was confirmed via social media.

A left-back by trade, the former Rangers captain and Hearts defender has called time on his career at 35 following his departure from English Championship club Queen's Park Rangers last season. He had already started his coaching journey by helping coach the Kelty Hearts U20s squad during his downtime away from Govan in 2019.

Wife Steph has posted online that the former Tynecastle star capped 10 times by Scotland is enjoying some family time before taking the next steps in football. She posted alongside a range of photos of her husband: "475 professional club appearances, 30 career goals, 10 Scotland Caps. Not bad for a young boy from Carrick Knowe! We are all so proud and enjoying having you home for a much deserved break and family time before the next step into coaching when the time is right."

Wallace only represented three clubs in his career, but that only served to display his commitment to the clubs he was at.

His career began at Hearts, where he debuted in the 2004-05 season and stayed until 2011, when a move to Rangers beckoned.

He was made club captain and stuck by the Light Blues following their demotion to the fourth tier of Scottish football, leaving in 2019 for QPR after their journey back to the Premiership was over.
