Edinburgh football fans have Easyjet flight to London delayed after passenger refuses to wear mask

A flight full of Edinburgh football fans eager to get to London for the Scotland v England Euros match was delayed last night after a passenger refused to wear a mask onboard.

The 34-year-old man was eventually removed from the aircraft by police officers after failing to comply with EasyJet's Covid safety regulations.

The plane had originally been set to take off from Edinburgh Airport at 9.15pm last night, but faced a 40 minute delay while cabin crew tried to get the passenger to wear a mask.

Police Scotland confirmed that no further action was taken once the man was removed from the flight.

An EasyJet spokesperson said: “EasyJet can confirm that the flight EZY814 from Edinburgh to Gatwick on 17 June has been delayed as the aircraft returned to stand prior to take-off. This was due to a passenger refusing to wear a face mask onboard.

“Passengers receive clear communications before they travel and via announcements onboard to ensure they are aware that, in line with current guidelines, they are required to wear a face mask onboard at all times except when eating or drinking.

“Our cabin crew will always try to be vigilant to ensure that passengers comply with the requirement to wear a mask and it is the responsibility of all onboard to adhere to these measures for the health and safety of everyone onboard.

"The safety and wellbeing of customers and crew is our highest priority."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a male, aged 34, was removed from a flight that was due to leave Edinburgh Airport earlier this evening after failing to comply with Covid requirements. No further police action was required."
