Edinburgh flats already being rented on AirBnB for £1,000 per night during Festival Fringe 2023

Scots heading to Edinburgh for a break during the Festival Fringe this year face paying over £1,000 per night.

According to Edinburgh Live prices are already soaring six months ahead of the summer festival.

An AirBnB flat on the Royal Mile, in Tron Square, is available in August for £1,621 per night.

Another luxury apartment is available in the Royal Mile is priced at a whopping £1,899 for a night during the festival. But the swanky abode, that can fit up to 20 people, is available for £374 a night at the end of this month.

There are some options that are perhaps more affordable. On the next street on North Gray's Close, there is a flat for £288 per night. Normally the same room costs about £100 at other times of the year.

A spokesman for EdFest.com described the drop in sales as a “major threat for everyone involved in the festival.” “Chief among these however is the soaring cost of accommodation in Edinburgh in August – audiences and artists alike are being priced out of town, out of experiences,” the spokesman warned.

“It is clear to anyone spending time in Edinburgh that there are fewer people in the city this year than in 2019. While there are certainly other factors that have affected audience numbers this year, the cost of accommodation is a perennial problem across the board.

“Disruption with public transport, delays with artist visas, and high fuel costs are even more insurmountable when people and performers simply cannot afford to stay in the city.”
