Edinburgh fish and chip shop bursts into flames as firefighters race to the scene

Hero Edinburgh fire crews have raced to the scene after a ferocious inferno broke out in a Meadows building shortly before noon on Monday August 8.

The emergency services received the call at 11.34am about the incident on Summerhall Place in the Newington area of the city. Scottish Fire and Rescue have sent six engines to fight the blaze.

Shocking pictures show furious orange flames taking over the building as thick black smoke billows into the air. It is currently unknown if there are any individuals stuck in the building.

The fire appears to have engulfed Franco's - a fast food restaurant on the Meadows street. Horrified onlookers shared pictures of the blaze on social media.
