Edinburgh firefighters race to blaze as it tears through flat on Leith Walk

Hero firefighters in Edinburgh raced to attend a third-floor blaze that tore through a flat on Leith Walk.

The fire service received a call at around 9pm on April 4 reporting the Inferno and five engines attended the scene put out the fire.

Buses were diverted for a few hours as Leith Walk was closed off to allow the Scottish Fire Service space to work.

There were no casualties and the blaze was extinguished late on Tuesday night.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 9.10pm on Tuesday, 4 April to reports of a building fire in Edinburgh.

"Operations Control mobilised five fire appliances to the city's Shrub Place, where firefighters were met by a fire within a third-floor property."

They continued: "Crews extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

"There were no casualties."
