A number of fire crews had been scrambled on Monday night (October 11) after a blaze broke out on Arthur's Seat.

Emergency services were called out to the scene after reports were made shortly before 8pm that a fire had sparked on the side of the iconic landmark.

Images taken of the flames have showed a bright orange glow shining through the night from some distance away, with crews attending the south facing side of the hill.

It's unclear at this stage how the fire started.

A local eye-witness raised the alarm on Twitter, saying: "Another fire on Arthur’s Seat.. Facing South this time... Getting bigger and bigger."

He later added: "Fire out, blue disco lights came and it disappeared."
