Edinburgh fire crews rush to scene of blaze at high-rise flats

Fire crews rushed to the scene of a blaze at high rise flats in Edinburgh this evening.

A large number of emergency service personnel were seen outside Castleview House from around 5.30pm on Thursday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service say they were called to the scene following reports of a fire in the bin chute.

Appliances from Liberton, Newcraighall and Tolcross were in attendance, and firefighters managed to quickly get the flames under control.

They departed the scene shortly after 6.30pm after the area was made safe.

It is currently unknown whether there are any injuries.

An eyewitness told Edinburgh Live that there were six fire engines, four ambulance and police all on the scene.

They added: "Hopefully the concierge got some evidence on the surveillance cameras as there's been a lot of chute fires set in this group of high-rise flats during lockdown."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.40pm on Thursday, 4 March, 2021 officers were called following a report of a fire within a bin chute at Castleview House, Edinburgh. Officers attended to assist the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.”
