Edinburgh fire crews race to street as huge figure engulfs double garage

A road has been closed in Edinburgh after emergency services raced to a fire in the early hours of the morning.

Both police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue service had been called out to a double garage on Moredun Dykes Road just after 2.30am on Friday.

After calls were made in the early hours, crews worked through the night to tackle the blaze after it engulfed the entire structure.

According to the SFRS, three engines had been in attendance as well as an aerial rescue pump to help fight the flames from above.

The fire has now been put out, however police have closed the surrounding road while enquiries into the cause of the fire are carried out, reports the Record.

No injuries have been reported however a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire has been launched.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers attended at Moredun Dykes Road in Edinburgh at around 3.35am on Friday, 25 June, 2021 following reports of a fire at a double garage.

“Enquiries are ongoing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 2.41am on Friday, June 25 to reports of a dwelling fire at Moredun Dykes Road, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and one aerial rescue pump and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a double garage.“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
