Edinburgh fire crews race to rescue dog after it plunges 'ten foot' over wall

Edinburgh fire and coastguard crews raced to rescue a dog after it plunged 'ten foot' over a coastal wall on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to Gypsy Brae shortly before 8:30pm last night after the dog, said to be a black labrador called Gunner, had fallen over the wall.

Photos from the scene show three fire engines were called out to the site to assist in the rescue operation, with coastguard crews also in attendance.

Concerned onlookers gathered at the popular walking spot after the dog went over the wall and watched on as the hero crews got to work.

A rope rescue was used in order to haul the fallen pup back to safety, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

It's understood the dog was placed in a dog carrier before being reunited with its owners.
