Edinburgh finally set for snow next week and weather experts predict exact day and time

It looks like Edinburgh could finally be set for snow this week.

Forecasters have been telling us that we are due a battering but there wasn't much seen throughout the month of December.

But that all looks set to change in January, according to the BBC weather experts.

They have predicted that snow will hit Edinburgh on Friday, January 7, and they say it will again make an appearance the following week on January 14.

This Friday, on January 7, the BBC forecast says that snow will fall in the early hours of the morning, starting at 1am and will last throughout the night until around 8am.

This should leave a decent amount of snow on the ground but rain and sleet are expected to wash it away and preventing any travel issues.

The following week on January 14 they predict snow and rain throughout the day, lasting from 8am until 11pm.

The Met Office are predicting cold but sunny weather over the next few days, but also say snow is on the way.

A spokesperson explained: "Windy with showers or longer spells of rain on Monday. Sunny spells on Tuesday but feeling much colder. Frosty, bright start to Wednesday then rain or snow spreading east."

Stay tuned to Edinburgh Live for the latest weather updates throughout the week.
