Edinburgh family-run boutique hotel to build fancy mini 'glass domes' in garden

Owners of a family-run Edinburgh hotel have applied to permission to build several garden pods for customers to use.

The four-star Salisbury Hotel on Salisbury Road have lodged plans to re-shape their small garden area which would see eight mini domes built as well as changes to the landscape.

The boutique hotel is located in the Newington area of the capital and currently comprises of 18 rooms and a café. The rooms have been built to represent typical Georgian living, combined with a touch modern conveniences.

The hotel also has its own bistro before it was replaced with the popular Sofia's Lounge Mediterranean street food restaurant, providing the hotel's dining option as well breakfast and a café. The garden area, equipped with a children's play area and sun loungers, could be set for a glamorous re-vamp, however.

Plans included in the proposals to the council indicate a new patio, shrubbery and chipped area would form a idyllic surrounding for the pods to be built upon.

It is understood the pods will be available for guests at the hotel to use during their stay, providing the perfect backdrop to enjoy a drink or bite to eat as the sun sets during the summer months.

Similar pods have become a popular attraction at city centre pubs and bars such as Cask Smugglers at Waverley Market over-looking the city centre. The mini glass domes are typically spacious enough for multiple users to enjoy a quiet and tranquil surrounding.
