Edinburgh entrepreneur opens city's first 'ultimate home cinema experience'

An Edinburgh businessman has created the ultimate custom-built cinema experience - the first of its kind in Scotland.

Hi-Fi corner in Portobello has invested close to the price of a two-bedroom flat in Edinburgh” in pioneering technology - bringing a home theatre capability of sound, picture and lighting together to create an immersive experience.

Hi-Fi corner, Scotland’s oldest and one of the UK’s most established high-fidelity retailers has been established in Edinburgh since the 1960s.

Struan MacKenzie, 34, owner of Hi-Fi corner took time to speak to Edinburgh Live about the significance of their new venture. He said: “At the moment people are flying to London to see and experience rooms of this calibre.

“There is not a facility like this that you can see in Scotland. It doesn’t exist up here and we are essentially pioneering this technology.”

Opening in the next few weeks, the cinema room has altogether 17 speakers and is completely soundproof with a top of the range, Barko projector to go along with it.

Hi-Fi corner will begin to offer the instalment of this all-immersive cinema experience to sound and cinema lovers who can afford it. Every single customer will receive a custom fit making it a “bespoke service” based on the customer’s needs.

Struan went onto emphasise life’s distractions and why a room like this is as close to a perfect cinema experience that you cannot get by going to your local cinema chain.

“We now live in a world with so many distractions. When you close the door, it allows you to escape and be fully immersed in the movie experience as it was intended by the director of the film. Having a dedicated room like this it forces you to do that.”

Struan’s Father, Colin MacKenzie used to run the business and is an admirer of classical music and plans to watch ‘Hanz Zimmer Live in Prague’ to soak up the quality of the room.

Hi-Fi corner sells high quality sound quality products including speakers that are the same that are used in Abbey Road. You can take a virtual tour of the ultimate cinema room here
