Edinburgh emergency services attend fire at Salisbury Crags near Arthur's Seat

The fire service raced to Salisbury Crags this afternoon amid reports of a small fire at the capital beauty spot near Arthur's Seat.

One appliance was dispatched to the scene of the fire which involved burning bush and grass.

Locals were alarmed after spotting plumes of smoke coming from the scene earlier, with one person taking to social media to write: "Anyone know why Arthur’s Seat / Salisbury’s Craggs is on fire?"

Historic Environment Scotland who provides park rangers for Arthur's Seat, tweeted: "We are aware of a small fire on Arthur’s Seat next to the radical road, which is closed. Fire services have been informed."

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to a small fire which was 10 metres by 10 metres of grass and heathland.

"The call came in at 14:00 hours and it was extinguished at 14:41."
