Edinburgh easyJet flyer demands refund after airline cancels majority of flights

Scots ready to jet off on holiday have had their plans scrapped after easyJet cancelled flights last minute.

Flights from Edinburgh were in the firing line, leaving customers frustrated and demanding refunds.

An outpouring of dissatisfied customers have complained about having their deals replaced with inconvenient alternative flights and expensive accommodation, The Mirror reports.

Due to the cancellations, some were left wondering if they could go on holiday at all.

After easyJet announced it was grounding the bulk of their flights, hopeful jet-setters were scrambling for their booking references last week.

"The majority of our flights are being cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic," the company tweeted out.

“Flights will continue to be reviewed. We continue to schedule and will make amends where we can in order to reflect the changes in demand and restrictions.”

Since the announcement, frustrated would-be flyers took to Twitter for some answers.

A hopeful traveller from Edinburgh contacted easyJet saying: "Hi, both my flights were cancelled and I've been trying to contact your customer service for ages, however they keep telling me my reference doesn't exist. I'd like to get a refund please. My flights are from Edinburgh to Paris CDG."

Another complained about having his flight rebooked at a higher price.

"What an absolutely horrendous customer service you have," he wrote to easyJet.

"Received an email that your sending a refund for a flight that I’ve not cancelled then want me to pay again at a higher price for your mistake."

Grace-Ann Burth found herself losing out on cheap accommodation because the flights she booked onto were cancelled no less than three times.

"Why do you guys keep cancelling my flights?" she asked easyJet.

"This is the third time you've done this. I have now lost money on accommodation because of this."

However, NorthWaleLive reached out to easyJet to ask if it was indeed “majority of flights” to which the response was: "We want to fly as many customers on as many flights as possible this summer, however as all airlines have been doing throughout the pandemic, we continue to adjust our flying schedule based on the restrictions put in place by Governments to ensure our flying programme best matches demand."

The spokesperson added that easyJet is "communicating with any customers impacted by a cancelled flight" in order to ensure they are aware of the options open to them, which include a full refund.

"We are providing customers with more flexibility than ever before with our Protection Promise which enables customers to change their flights fee-free up to two hours before their flight if they are no longer able to travel," the spokesman said

"We have consistently urged the UK Government to increase the number of countries on the Green list and have kept our aircraft and crews in flight-ready mode so we have the ability to ramp up to 90% of our fleet by peak summer so we are ready and able to ramp up," the statement concluded.

EasyJet have been asking customers to check their Latest Information page on their website for updates as they do not have any policies for flights as far as July.
