Edinburgh drone show 2020: How to get involved as virtual Hogmanay celebrations continue

Edinburgh's three-day virtual Hogmanay celebration continues with the second part of the FareWell drone spectacular tonight.

The display will get underway at 7pm, and the public are able to tune in from home using the Edinburgh's Hogmanay website, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Organisers are also giving people the chance to tune in to part one again if they missed Tuesday night's show, with the entire performance still on YouTube.

The three-day spectacular concludes on Hogmanay with the final installment featuring 150 drones and the voices of David Tennant, Siobhan Redmond, Lorne MacFadyen and Scots Makar Jackie Kay who wrote a poem specifically for this year's event.

Organisers say the drone show will "reflect on world events this year, before looking to the turn of the year and our hopes for 2021".

With Edinburgh, and the majority of Scotland, in level four lockdown people are urged to spend Hogmanay at home. Pubs, restaurants and cafes of course remain closed, with the city's traditional New Year celebrations have been scrapped for this year due to the pandemic.

You can get involved in tonight's show by registering on the Edinburgh's Hogmanay website if you have not already done so.

The Hogmanay celebration kicked off with an emotional NHS tribute on the Edinburgh Castle esplanade earlier this week. A multi-coloured flare display was created as a way of saying thank you to the NHS staff and key workers who worked to keep us all safe throughout the pandemic.
