Edinburgh drivers warned that road closures on the A720 will last four nights

Edinburgh motorists are warned road closures on the A720 will last for four nights.

Bridge inspection works at Hermiston Gait will lead to overnight lane and carriageway closures this month.

The lane and carriageway closures will be in place on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass at Hermiston Gait on the nights of 7, 8, 9 and 10 June 2021.

This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out essential post-tensioning investigations and material testing on the concrete bridge at this location.

For the safety of road workers and the travelling public, the following traffic restrictions will be in place on the A720:

Monday June 7: The nearside lane eastbound between Hermiston Gait and A71 Calder Junction will be closed between 20:00 and 06:00.

Tuesday June 8: The nearside lane eastbound between Hermiston Gait and A71 Calder Junction will be closed between 20:00 and 06:00.

Wednesday June 9: The A720 eastbound carriageway will be closed at Hermiston Gait between 20:00 and 06:00. Diversions will be signposted via the Hermiston Gait and A71 Calder Junctions to re-join the A720 eastbound via the on-slip.

Thursday June 10: The A720 westbound carriageway will be closed at Calder Junction between 20:00 and 06:00. A diversion will be signposted via the A71 Calder Junction to then re-join the M8 westbound and A720 westbound via designated on-slips. Traffic for Hermiston Gait will be diverted to Gogar Interchange to then return on the A720 eastbound to exit at Hermiston Gait.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

All personnel on site will be subject to strict physical distancing protocols in line with Scottish Government guidance. Thorough risk assessments have been developed and cleansing stations will be implemented on site.
